Dawsons is the place to visit for a great meal and value. I visit through the week and weekends with the family, love the saturday cook, she is awesome and the servers on the weekend cheerful and always smiling. As a businessman, wish I could have them at my business..lucky for dawsons. There is an issue, that the owners are might be aware of or not, but not having enough staff on the weekends will kill business, (speaking from experience). Customers will complain and will not come back. Dawson has so much potential. I noticed through the week the owners wife works but not weekends when short staffed? as a owner of a business, you should have staff or backup if staff call in sick, going with 2 servers will hurt your business if the restaurant is busy that day. I also noticed from other reviews some people said the owner looks unhappy, or some said he's a quiet man, it does reflect on business. My wife and I worked together at the beginning of our business, but after working all day long everyday with each other, it took it's toll, everyone was unhappy, she got herself another little job, and will assist me when need be. Other then that, Dawsons has our vote. Try Dawsons once and you'll be back all the time, like we are.

What a great breakfast. I saw a bunch of cops parked out front so you know if the cops or fire dept are there it's gotta be good. Went in and the service was very friendly and the food was plentiful, hot, and quick to the table. The price was more than fair as well.

I love it at Dawson's. It's like being at home. I'm a value shopper and get great breakfast value there. Sure, you sometimes have to ask for more coffee, but you always get another cup and a smile to go with it. For those reviewers who want all the extra's, ask yourselves if you are willing to pay the price? I've tried Cora's several times & several locations. The staff are indifferent, the food is cold and I have to pay top dollar. Food for thought the one improvement I would suggest for Dawson's is for someone to direct me to a table on entry instead of the usual Just sit anywhere. But, if they did that it wouldn't feel like home anymore.

We went to dawson's for breakfast. The food was terrible, I asked for chocolate chip pancakes and I got it with a hair on it. I showed the server the hair she brought it back and said she was making a new one. When I got it back it was the same pancakes just put in the microwave the chocolate chips were in the same place as before, thats discusting our server was the owner so how many times has this happened before. We will NEVER be back. Always check your food when you send it back!!!!

I love this place! My family and friends have been attending since it opened, very delicious food and friendly personal staff. Maybe the people who wrote the staff is not friendly need to evaluate their own personality. The gentleman owner is shy, that is not a crime, he always smiles and says hello not sure what is wrong with that. The female staff are always pleasant and work hard to ensure you are comfortable. I have watched all staff with kids and they are all great. I have witnessed many regular customers come in and engage in conversation providing life updates and saying how great their breakfast was ... that doesn't happen unless you are completely satisfied with the food and business. I would have to say we attend a few times a week and see the same customers and new ones who keep coming back ... keep up the great work Dawson's!

We usally vist when we are in Whitby. I wanted to comment on the burgers...tried it for the first time....very good!! I noticed the previous review. That's sad, as we alwsays find the staff to be friendly and the service as well as the food to be wonderful!

Recently,, my family and I visited this place , and. We , were not happy, with my, breakfast With my family,, the , food was cold, toast, cold.no greeting, or checking, out the, meals, by wait staff the , staff don't greet, or smile, no refills, on coffee, things have strangely, changed. I will have to fing somewhere, else to take my, breKfast , business! Maybe down town!!! Not imposed, with this place , any , linger!Prices include taxes and fees!

I would just like to say that I used to really enjoy eating at this establishment....things have changed not to sure workers just don't seem as happy ....maybe they deserve a raise ....food for thought ....happy employees is key they are the face your tour business!!!!

all the food served there during the week and weekend is simply fantastic, my wife and i have been going there for awhile during the week and some weekends, Yes they call it a family restaurant but it'snot a family run business (husband/wife,kids)as the other reviewer had implied, The owner and his wife (works the weekdays) run the place so yes it is a family run business and not a franchise like the other breakfast places. we've been there on the weekend, very busy earlier on but the food is very good and delicious, always hot and sometimes a little wait but we love our food when we get it.

The family went to the santa claus parade and then to dawson's. we had a great meal. The kids love the pancakes with smarties. Food was good, good friendly service, very nice family restaurant.

The Mexican Omlette is a quite good. It is also obvious that the last reviewer doesn't know much....The owner's kids DO NOT work there. Ha ha... Why doesn't this person get to know facts before commenting on the web. We've gotten to know the owner and he is just a quiet man, as for the wife, she is hardly ever there. Yes, the thin blonde is on fire and the female cook is great, but we still enjoy the place, the prices are good and get a lot for your money.

The food is awesome, the best breakfast we've found in Durham. However when the caribbean lady is cooking she is the absolute best, the male chef over cooks the scrambled eggs .. don't like that.
Coffee is decent, but alot of times you have to wave a server to beg for refills. The coffee is good, which is why it irritates us when we can't get more as fast as we'd like.
This is a husband & wife and kids team, with some employees. The husband has improved and is a little friendlier, but he really does give the impression that he'd rather not be there and I don't think I've ever seen him smile.
The wife is absolutely the opposite, very nice lady who always smiles, but does forget to refill coffee.
There is a tall slim blonde waitress who is incredible,she is run off her feet, does not stop and helps tables that are not hers, if she's there that is who I want to serve us.
When the grown kids work, well lazy doesn't adequately describe it. They spend a lot of time chitchatting with their backs to the customers, very irritating when you need refills.
We still go there because breakfast there is better than any other place we've gone to in Durham, however when we have a hard time getting coffee refills, or have the male chef who overcooks the scrambled .. well we don't rush back that fast.
The one dish I absolutely would not recommend is the Mexican Omelette - its horrid, they use jarred warmed chunky salsa, just awful. I expected a homemade tomatoe sauce and freshly sliced jalepenos (not pickled ones as they use) the dish was too vinegary.

Overall I like Dawsons Breakfast. For the price it is very good. The Super breakfast leaves you feeling very full. The coffee isn't always the best, but I guess it's like that anywhere. One thing that could change is the owner, not so friendly, and makes you feel like eating there is a hassel for him to give you breakfast.

This is the best breakfast restaurant we have ever been too. Affordable and great food. The atmosphere is simple and homey, but the food and staff are amazing!!
We haven't gone to Denny's since we have found Dawson's.

Quaility of the food was great! Portions were good and service was prompt. Don't know what happened to the last reviewer, but our family enjoyed the meal. )

Some how the owners think that 5 blueberries placed on 3 tasteless pancakes is a recipe for Blueberry pancakes.

The breakfast sausage tasted terrible and the serving was not that big.

Noise bounced off all the walls making for a noisy place and the other customers looked as disappointed about the place as we did.

Maybe people go there out of habit or laziness (it is the only place in that area).

The food is AMAZING! We always go in and leave satisfied. As a server, myself, I really notice the little things. Sometimes I don't get the waitress' name and we usually don't asked if our food is tasting good. I know not every place is service focused but I find that is the only thing lacking. Other than that it is a GREAT place for all ages and sizes. )

Quality of food is below average, do not make you feel welcome and the owner is not frendly.

This is regarding the last comment ( Lobster) You contradicted yourself. First you said the quality is low and then you said the price is low for the quality of food??? Dawson's has good food and the prices are quite low compared to other breakfast restaurants. It is simple homemade meals with low prices. We love it there. As for the owner, he has always been quite pleasant with us, especially when he is not busy.

The food seems to be very low quality, toast is burnt most of the time. Owner is not so friendly, but staff is good. Price is low for the quality food.

This little place is a blessing waiting to be discovered by citizens of whitby.

First time visiting Dawson's with the family, great food, excellent staff. Our family enjoyed ourselves. One customer at the next table was not happy with her selection and started to be vocal (loud)- although she had to right to complain, next time do it a little more subtle so the restaurant (other tables) do not have to hear you rant - very tacky. Getting up from your table to carry your food to the waitress and then state out loud

Good place to eat to start your morning ..the selection of breaky choice is all there at affordable prices.

I eat there all the time, the selection is good.BTW, to Roriz, the water is free unless you order bottled water and you pay for that everywhere. Good food, good prices!

Dawsons all day breakfast is the centre of all that is good in our food indrusties of today.

We have been looking for a good breakfast restaurant in Whitby for some time, and finally found one that meets our expectations. The Food is simple and very delicious, service is friendly and you can't beat the prices.

Love it!! Food is great, service excellent and the place is clean!!! Only, one thing.... Prices are so low!

Took my family to Dawsons All Day Breakfast for family day breakfast. Food was delicious as always, our family visits them every weekend. Staff is very kind and cheery. Very nice family restaurant.
